About a year and a half ago I started Quest English 8, taught by Ryan McCallum. I had heard great things about McCallum from not only the Quest students above us, but from pretty much every person who has ever had McCallum. I didn't really expect much from McCallum and I didn't think he could be as good of a teacher as students made him sound, considering he was teaching English.
Going into the class, I pretty much expected it to be like every other Quest English class I had ever had, pretty shitty. I used to love English, back when English time was reading books for 30 minutes in class everyday. But once I entered 6th grade Quest English my love for reading and writing, went downhill. I extremely disliked my 6th grade teacher and I just kept hating English through out 7th grade with a teacher who didn't know how to enforce anything. My definition of English has changed so much over the last 3 years, and I couldn't be happier.
The first day of Quest English 8 I walked in happy, cause it was the 1st class of my 8th grade year, and I was on top of the school. I walked in sat down and watched McCallum start the class. He seemed pretty cool. We had a great discussion about truth that day, not nearly as good as many of the discussions to follow though, and I realized English was more than forced reading and writing, and that English could be discussions and bouncing ideas off each other and so many other great opportunities that I would encounter through out the next year and a half. I started to love English and I never would of thought walking into McCallums class on that 1st day, that English would soon become my all time favorite class.
